The key to good landscape lighting is three-fold: Make the grounds look good from the outdoors, aid in security and offer those looking out from the inside rich, nighttime views. Water is one of the greatest media in which to work with light. However, to be truly exceptional, water feature lighting design must take into account everything from aesthetic considerations to chemistry, and natural physics to cutting-edge technology.

This entryway sees the comings and goings of some of the casino’s most important and valued guests. The design challenge was to create lighting that was visually stunning and sophisticated, yet conveyed a soothing sense of welcome and warm reception twenty-four hours a day.

MGM Grand Pools
This expansive property includes nine different pools spanning several acres, as well as a Lazy River ride running adjacent to the Convention Center. At the time it was built, it was the only casino pool property kept open and accessible after dark. Accordingly, RDLD created luxurious lighting befitting a showpiece property, but also with a sharp eye toward safety and a sense of security for resort guests.

These homeowners wanted dramatic lighting for their Saratoga home and magnificent Magnolia trees. Through layered lighting techniques, the lanterns appear to do the work of concealed uplights. As a result, their trees not only are illuminated, but become as much a work of art as landscaping for the property.

With its strolling paths and central water feature, Plaza Park is located in the heart of San Jose’s business district. Ross De Alessi worked with project architects to provide lighting that maintained both a sense of security as well as a romantic image.
